Product Management Shifts from Backlog Ownership to Workflow Orchestration

Atlassian, Salesforce, and Dscout are pushing product management toward AI-orchestrated systems: Jira is being positioned as an orchestration layer for agentic work, Salesforce is embedding Claude into CRM through Headless 360 and MCP, and Dscout is wiring customer feedback directly into AI tools. The common move is away from static task tracking and toward systems where agents can draft, update, and act inside the tools PMs already use.

Atlassian’s new Jira Planner, Jira for Slack, Agents in Jira, built-in Jira Coding Agent, and agent-session visibility make Jira less of a ticketing system and more of a control plane. Salesforce’s “Salesforce in Claude” adds 37 pre-built sales skills for governed actions like meeting prep, deal review, pipeline updates, and account planning. Dscout narrows the gap between research capture and product action by feeding qualitative input straight into AI-assisted analysis.

For PMs, the job is shifting from managing backlogs to defining where agents can act, what they can access, and when humans must approve. The practical edge now comes from designing permissions, workflow boundaries, and accountability as carefully as features and releases.
