AI Takes Over Discovery Admin, PMs Shift to Decisions and Experiments
The gist
Product management is shifting from PM-owned research and synthesis to shared, AI-assisted discovery work embedded across the product trio.
This week’s developments
Continuous Discovery Is Becoming a Shared, AI-Assisted Team Practice
Bilendi’s AI upgrade for Bilendi Discuss adds Ask BARI plus automation for moderation, follow-up questions, translation, transcription, sentiment analysis, coding, summaries, and report generation. At the same time, reporting on continuous discovery shows engineers joining PMs directly in customer interviews, experiment design, and synthesis, usually inside a product trio with design. Together, these are the clearest signs that discovery is becoming easier to sustain because more of the manual work is being automated and more of the team is participating in the work itself.
This is a narrower shift than a full operating-model rewrite, but it matters: AI is reducing the time spent wrangling verbatims and building filters, while discovery is moving beyond PM-only review of research outputs. PMs still own strategy and interpretation, but the execution of discovery is spreading across the team.
For product managers, the job is tilting toward framing sharper questions, facilitating synthesis, and turning faster AI-assisted insight into decisions with engineers and designers already in the room.
How should teams adapt discovery roles as AI automates the grunt work?
If you're an individual contributor
- Discovery grunt work is fading; your edge is sharper judgment.
- Get fluent in AI-assisted synthesis and interview facilitation, or you'll be stuck doing work the team can now automate.

If you manage a team
- Your team must learn discovery as a shared, AI-augmented habit.
- Coach PMs, designers, and engineers to join interviews and synthesis; your leverage shifts to building that muscle, not owning every insight.
If you lead the organization
- Discovery is becoming a team system, not a PM-only function.
- Invest in AI research tooling and product-trio workflows now, or your org will keep paying senior PMs to do manual discovery.
