Eli Lilly’s $27 billion U.S. expansion, Novartis’s $2 billion Texas hub, Sanofi’s $1 billion New Jersey plant, and AstraZeneca’s $50 billion manufacturing-and-R&D pledge through 2030 show the constraint has moved beyond tariff cost and lane substitution: shipment continuity now depends on whether origin claims and export permissions can be sustained. One report says AstraZeneca’s plan would shift a minority of U.S.-sold medicines now made in Europe to U.S. sites, underscoring how quickly sourcing footprints are being reworked.
The pressure is broader than branded pharma. Paratek Pharmaceuticals is onshoring Nuzyra supply through U.S. contract manufacturers, while proposed forced-labor tariffs target medical imports including N95 respirators, surgical masks, gowns, isolation apparel, meltblown textiles, and nitrile gloves, with the most exposed sourcing concentrated in China, Malaysia, Thailand, and India. China’s tighter drone export controls and retaliatory sanctions add case-by-case approval risk for U.S.-bound drones, components, and dual-use technologies, pushing lead times out at origin instead of just raising landed cost. For supply chain teams, the next step is the one that follows last week’s tariff mapping: proving provenance, managing export permissions, and building alternate sources before a shipment is blocked.

Risk Visibility Shifts From Mapping to Continuous Orchestration
In April 2026, Interos.ai expanded its risk platform with Ask Interos, iQ, i tracing, and i tariffs, pushing supply chain visibility from supplier-level monitoring into product-, SKU-, and dollar-impact analysis across sub-tier networks. The update also added relationship-context insights, real-time mitigation recommendations, tighter cyber scoring, and deeper workflow links with SAP Ariba and other enterprise systems.
That matters because the platform is no longer just identifying risk; it is translating multi-tier disruption into business context fast enough to support action. Interos’s new capabilities build on its existing N-tier mapping, alerts, APIs, and automation, but move the center of gravity toward predictive analytics, tariff exposure, and cross-system execution. For supply chain and logistics teams, the shift is from periodic mapping to always-on orchestration.
For practitioners, this changes the job. Daily work moves away from manual investigation and spreadsheet reconciliation toward AI-assisted exception triage across procurement, logistics, cyber, and finance. The advantage will go to people who can interpret AI outputs, prioritize responses, and act on tier-2 and tier-3 signals before disruption reaches the front line.
