Agentic Revenue Ops Replace SDR Work, Recasting Reps as Workflow Supervisors and Prompt Designers
The gist
Sales teams are moving from AI helpers to AI operators, and the job is shifting from doing repetitive pipeline work to supervising autonomous systems.
This week’s developments
Agentic Revenue Operations Replace Manual SDR Work
Late July 2026 marked a clear shift from sales AI as assistant to sales AI as operator. Salesforce positioned Agentforce Sales as a governed digital workforce inside CRM workflows, and Gro launched its Autonomous Revenue Platform on July 28 with prospecting, outreach, follow-up, intent scoring, and CRM updates under “reversible autonomy.” MyUser and 11x extended similar agents across prospect discovery, multichannel outreach, reply handling, and meeting booking.
Gartner’s November 2025 forecast puts the scale of the change in context: by 2028, AI agents are expected to outnumber human sellers 10:1 and influence about 90% of B2B buying across more than $15 trillion in spend. The economics are already favoring automation in high-volume work, with Autobound citing AI SDR cost per lead at about $39 versus $262 for human SDRs, even as outbound reply rates have dropped from roughly 2–3% in 2022 to 0.5–1% in 2025. For sellers and sales leaders, the job is moving toward supervising agent output, setting guardrails, and deciding where human judgment still matters most.
